Bear Tree

Black bears like to pick a tree on their travels on which to leave a calling card. They scratch the bark sometimes reaching up as high as they can. Other bears who come along and find the tree do the same. For a more detailed description check this link. In the past, I’ve posted other trees and signposts that showed such marks. This was the most recent. There were light superficial marks of several different sizes in many places on the trunk. These little ones made by a small paw were higher than me.I’m always thrilled to find these marks and feel they are a hidden gem discovered during a hike. February, 2017
