With Warmth And Remembrance

I was saddened to learn of the loss of a family friend.  His and my mom were friends before we were born.  So though he lived far away, his presence was part of my world. He would often visit a couple times per year.  As he lived in Florida, he particularly loved sledding with us in winter. I don’t have the family photos or I would scan one from those days.

He was closer to my brother, who informed me of his passing last night.  He was a brilliant man, an MIT grad who, more than once, brought my brother and I to MIT for weekends.  As an adult he was always cheerful and eager to lend a hand. In December of 2008, he helped me after my biceps surgery.

His death was utterly abrupt and unexpected.  My brother had spoken to him a couple days ago with no idea of what was coming. The world is a lesser place without him.
